Algeria Optical Cable Acquisition
The Medusa subsea cable — 8,760 km, 24 fibre pairs at 20 Tbps each, 480 Tbps total — is coming online across the Mediterranean with Algeria as one of 21 confirmed landing countries. Marseille was lit in October 2025, Bizerte in November 2025 and Nador in December 2025. Algeria has taken another major step forward in its digital transition with the official launch of the Medusa submarine fibre optic cable, announced on Thursday at the port of Algiers by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki. The Algeria Fiber Optic Cables Market is experiencing steady growth driven by increasing demand for high-speed internet services, advancements in telecommunication infrastructure, and government initiatives promoting digital connectivity. In line with this objective, Algeria Telecom plans to rely on local microenterprises financially supported by the National Agency for Microcredit Management (ANGEM).
