Standards for Protection Boundary Requirements of Relay Protection
The IEC standards, especially IEC 60255 and IEC 60947, define the general requirements for protection relays and low-voltage circuit breakers. These clean energy sources, connected through inverters and flexible transmission systems, are transforming traditional grids based on synchronous generators into more flexibl cant challenges to system stability. Protective relays and devices have been developed over 100 years ago to provide "last line" of defense for the electrical systems. They are intended to quickly identify a fault and isolate it so the balance of the system continue to run under normal conditions. For example, unselective protection operation during a medium voltage network fault will cause an outage for an unnecessarily large number of consumers.
