Google and the Chilean government have signed an agreement to install the Chile Submarine Humboldt Cable, a 14,800 km undersea fiber-optic line linking Valparaíso, Chile, with Sydney via French Polynesia. Humboldt Cable is a planned fiber optic submarine communications cable that will connect Chile with Australia, becoming the first-ever link between South America and the Asia-Pacific region. Chilean state-owned infrastructure group Desarrollo País has enlisted Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York and Carey in Santiago to ink a public-private agreement (PPP) with Google for the development of a landmark submarine fibre optic cable project between Chile to Australia.
